Asserting himself as a rapper to watch in 2022, buzzing Florida phenomenon GMK drops a heartfelt message to his son in his new single and music video entitled “Letter To Yasir” today.
On the track, an airy guitar loop encircles a pulsating beat as GMK sinks his teeth into the production. He charges forward with spitfire verses before a punchy and powerful message, “If I could pray for one more thing that both of us make it to heaven, thought I’d write you a letter.” The accompanying visual, directed by Leeza Ashley, reflects this heart and intensity on-screen and only hints at the rapper’s potential. The video was recorded over the last couple of months since Yasir’s birth.
Most importantly, it sets the stage for more music to come very soon from GMK.
Hailing from Jacksonville, FL, GMK wholeheartedly embraced music during a stint in a juvenile detention center. Following the 2017 banger “The Truth,” he ignited a flurry of bangers independently. In 2020, “Pray for War” generated 1.4 million Spotify streams. This year, “New 50’s” reeled in 1.2 million Spotify streams. With hundreds of thousands of followers and acclaim from the likes of Elevator Mag, he’s primed for a major moment. GMK has received co-signs from outlets including Trash Mag, From The Block, Off the Porch, Saycheese, and artists like Kevin Gates, Kodak Black, DJ Smallz Eyes, and Brent Faiyaz.
